Visit Similipal, a flagship community-driven initiative by Muttpackers, was designed to highlight the unexplored beauty of Similipal National Park—one of India’s most biodiverse forest reserves in Odisha. The project focused on building sustainable tourism models that celebrate local culture, wildlife, and heritage while empowering rural communities around the region.
The initiative sought to transform Similipal into a responsible travel destination, blending eco-tourism with local storytelling. It emphasized environmental sensitivity, cultural preservation, and experiential hospitality, positioning the region as a hidden gem for travelers seeking authenticity and nature immersion.
ABOUT
In 2024, I was responsible for the destination research, experience development, and brand building aspects of the Visit Similipal project. My role involved exploring nearby attractions, documenting wildlife and landscapes, creating brand content, and curating guest itineraries focused on local tourism and conservation experiences.
I also organized and executed over 7 community-centric events—including guided treks, cultural evenings, “cook with locals” sessions, and creative gatherings aimed at promoting sustainable tourism. My work extended to collaborating with local artisans and tribes, learning about Dhokra art and Santali traditions, and integrating these cultural insights into guest experiences and storytelling. Additionally, I handled photo documentation, influencer collaborations, and on-site event management, helping build visibility for the destination while creating content that reflected the authentic spirit of Similipal and its people.

Description
The Visit Similipal Project was an immersive exercise in developing a sustainable and culturally rooted travel destination. I worked on all aspects of destination ideation, from on-ground exploration to digital storytelling, ensuring a balance between community engagement and guest satisfaction.
Through photography, local collaborations, and hands-on event management, I helped establish Similipal as a vibrant yet eco-conscious retreat for travelers. The experience deepened my understanding of how tourism can serve as a bridge between conservation and community, blending storytelling with strategy to shape a lasting brand identity for the region.
